There's Just Something About Hot Subs and Good News
QUIZNOS+ JESUS =I'll never forget sitting across from Derek at Quiznos, watching him read three simple Bible verses. He was a young dad struggling with life, living with his girlfriend, Gabbie, who was pregnant with their second child. They had begun visiting our church because things were tough. Over sandwiches, I opened my Bible to three highlighted verses, asking him to read each one aloud and tell me what he thought they were saying. Romans 3:23... Romans 6:23... Romans 10:9... By the time we finished lunch, Derek had given his life to Jesus right there in that sandwich shop. But there's more! That evening, Gabbie wanted to hear more about Derek's conversation with me. So the next day we went back to that same Quiznos, looked at the same three verses, and she surrendered her heart to Jesus, too. Over the next several days, I got to marry them on a Saturday and baptize them both on Sunday. It was a weekend I'll never forget. Three verses. Two lives changed. One family transformed for eternity. God's Word is powerful in its simplicity. Romans 3:23 tells us the problem, Romans 6:23 shows us the solution, and Romans 10:9 gives us the response. We don't need perfect theology to follow Jesus. CREEPY LULLABIES & STOLEN PEACE When Judah was a brand-new baby, we would strap a little monitor to his foot every night. TURKEY EGGROLLS? Our friends have a Black Friday tradition that sounds a bit off the wall, but is apparently amazing. The day after Thanksgiving, they take all their leftovers—turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, everything—and wrap it all up in egg roll wrappers, then fry them golden. They swear these "Thanksgiving egg rolls" are better than the actual meal. (BTW...we are definitely going to test it out today!) It got me thinking about how easy it is to believe our best days are behind us....
HELP MY UNBELIEF I don't know about you, but the past couple of weeks have been a little overwhelming.
