TURKEYEGGROLLS?Our friends have a Black Friday tradition that sounds a bit off the wall, but is apparently amazing. The day after Thanksgiving, they take all their leftovers—turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, everything—and wrap it all up in egg roll wrappers, then fry them golden. They swear these "Thanksgiving egg rolls" are better than the actual meal. (BTW...we are definitely going to test it out today!) It got me thinking about how easy it is to believe our best days are behind us. When things don't work out how we thought they would, we start thinking God doesn't have anything better ahead. Romans 8:28 tells us He works all things together for good, but we don't always see it in the moment. The disappointment, the waiting, the things that feel like "leftovers" from our original plans—God has a way of taking those pieces and creating something even better than what we first imagined. Maybe you're in a leftover season right now. The job didn't work out. The relationship ended. The plan fell through. It feels like scraps. But God specializes in taking our broken pieces and making something beautiful. Something better than we first dreamed. I'm praying this week that you'll trust Him with your leftovers, and believe the best is still coming, even when it looks nothing like what you expected. WITH YOU IN THE JOURNEY,P.S. Our wedding was a blur. Months of planning, and the whole thing was over in a flash. It's so hard to remember all of the wonderful details. You know what I do remember? Who was there. Family. Friends. Some of them driving hours just to stand in a room with us on one particular afternoon. Most didn't really do anything. But they came. And that memory has lasted almost 20 years. I think that's part of why the wedding at Cana gets me (John 2). Because Jesus is there. At a party, with his mom and...
Most Bible reading plans die somewhere in Leviticus. Mine did. More than once. So I made one with a finish line you can actually see: 55 days in the Gospel of John, eight minutes a morning, starting the day you sign up. Start 55 Days in John — free Here's what shows up at 7am: The day's passage and what's actually going on in it. One takeaway. One thing to do about it. A short prayer. And the audio, if you'd rather listen on the drive. That's it. Eight minutes. It's free, and nothing starts...
CREEPY LULLABIES & STOLEN PEACE When Judah was a brand-new baby, we would strap a little monitor to his foot every night. It was supposed to give us peace of mind by alerting us if he ever stopped breathing. I think it actually took 10 years off my life. Every night around 2am, a creepy lullaby would start blaring, signaling that our baby had stopped breathing. Deliriously, Faith and I would launch out of bed, wrestle past each other down the hallway, and burst into Judah’s room, only to find...
